Local spotlight: OCNJ Fall block party

Happy Sunday, people!

This weeks post is a little different because I decided to write about something I did this weekend. If you read my “Welcome!” post you already know i’m a student at Rowan University and live in South Jersey. My whole life i’ve spent as much of my summer as possible in Ocean City with my family. On Saturday, October 8th, OCNJ hosted their annual fall block party and my whole family decided to attend! Here’s a little overview of my experience this year…

The first tent I stopped at was Walt’s Dream Wear to look at some cute Disney gear. I’m going to Walt Disney World in December so lately i’ve been scouring Etsy for cute shirts & magicband stickers. This vendor’s shirts were SO soft I had to order a Christmas one for my trip!

Next up was my favorite store on the island, Island Gypsy! This store has some really, really cute boutique clothes but typically their prices are a little bit high. For the Fall block party the past two years the store has been mostly 50% off!!! It was chaos in here and the line to checkout was all the way at the doorway. If you’re ever in the area, you have to check this store out. It’s located in an old bank and the amount of white paint and huge chandeliers in the place amaze me every time.

Unfortunately, shortly after the block party began, and while I was standing in line at Island Gypsy, it started raining & didn’t stop all day long. This really cut my time at the block party short because walking around in the rain is one of my least favorite things. Instead of looking around at all the other vendors, I decided food was my top priority before heading home. This lead me to Manco & Manco because it’s a shore staple! To my surprise they even had birch beer at their block party tent. If you haven’t tried birch beer with you pizza, you need to try it asap.

Lastly, we went on the search for something sweet (aka my favorite part of any meal). We ended up at Wards Pastry on 7th street. They had the best vanilla cake pops covered in white chocolate & gingerbread cookies shaped like skeletons that I ate before I was able to snap a picture.

Overall, I highly suggest the OCNJ block parties to everyone, even in the rain! They always have a fun mix of vendors & I wish I could’ve gotten more pictures to show you all. I will definitely be heading back in May for the Spring block party.
